fresh sounds

We’re a dynamic team of music fanatics passionate about our contribution to the company and committed to working together to create excellent and innovative programming.

There are lots of benefits to being a small team and aside from the regular Friday bevvies, the principal one is we are super flexible and can quickly respond to the changing needs of our viewers.

We’re proud to offer a full spectrum of musical genres across seven world famous digital channels: 4Music, The Box, Smash Hits!, Kiss, Q, Kerrang! and Magic. The work keeps us pretty busy but we love what we do and hope that translates on screen!

Now for all you history lovers, here’s how it all started.

The Box Channel was launched in the UK in 1992 by Vincent Monsey and Liz Laskowski. Then in 1996 Emap bought The Box and increased its distribution across the whole of the UK.

Box's sucess was so strong that Emap wanted to expand the offering and so launched five new channels that mirrored Emap's music magazine and radio brands.  Kiss and Q were set up in 2000, and Kerrang!, Smash Hits! and Magic were established in 2001 - all available on Sky and Virgin.

One year later The Hits launched on Freeview and Sky and Cable by 2005 it was the UK’s most watched music TV channel – outstripping MTV. In 2007 Channel 4, keen to strengthen its music TV output and recognising the significance to its key audience, bought 50% of Box TV.  In 2007 Emap sold its 50% share of Box Television (along with its radio and magazine business) to Bauer Media, nowBox Television is a 50:50 joint venture between Channel 4 and Bauer Media.

In August 2008 The Hits re-launched as 4Music with the highest profile channel launch for many years.  This distinctive brand has firmly established itself as the UK’s leading music TV channel.  It's an exciting mix of the very best music videos, talent-led charts, live concerts, exclusive interviews and the finest comedy shows from the C4 stable.

We’ll continue to invest in the music industry because it’s something we believe in, a bit like santa.

As a network we’re proud to offer more music than any other and will continue to stand on the frontline championing the finest in music entertainment.
